The death of Henry II of France

The French monarch also had a singular death to say the least.

Henry II, son of Francis I, arrived on the throne after the death of his first-born brother, Francis.

He married Caterina de 'Medici who remained sterile for 10 years, but who then gave him 10 children.
Death Henry II

Henry II continued the wars with England and Spain with mixed fortunes, until he came to establish peace with the Treaty of Cateau-Cambresis.

And we come to his death, because it comes precisely from the celebrations that followed the peace treaty and those for the marriage of his daughter Elizabeth with Philip II of Spain.

As was the custom at the time, the knightly jousting followed one another and during one of these demonstrations a splinter, coming from the spear of Gabriel I of Lorges, hit him in the eye and penetrates the brain. After about ten days of agony Henry II dies.
